The Stylish Garmin Forerunner 410

This good looking sport watch (which only comes in black and one size) weighs just a tad over 2 ounces. But don’t be fooled by the seemingly simplicity. It gathers and stores a wealth of data for you to analyze later or monitor during your run.

This new model has an enhanced bezel on the face to allow you to easily and quickly scroll through all the watch options – in any kind of weather – wet or dry.

The Forerunner 410 also features what they refer to as HotFix®. All this means is that once you are outside, your watch will quickly lock on to a satellite. Due to its high sensitivity, it will also stay locked on even when going through the trees or being over shadowed by tall structures.

Then when your run is complete, and you come near your PC, the data will be automatically uploaded to the free Garmin Connect site where you can analyze it until your heart is content. This is all done wirelessly and automatically.

Data Analysis

Once you start using the software, don’t feel that you will be locked into any fixed pages or charts. You will be able to customize your training pages with any of the up to 30 different types of data that is stored.

Advanced Training
One of the nice features of this Garmin Forerunner 410 (and some of the other models) is that you can create detailed workouts. These may include running the same path you ran before and seeing how you compare to your previous run(s), or you can race again a virtual assistant, where you run or race against a digitally stored and prepared race partner, comparing your actual pace vs. your “partner’s” pace (which is really the goal you are trying to attain.)

The other nice feature is that if you get lost or want to try a new path once you are out, the Forerunner 410 can use its navigational smarts to lead you back to your home or starting point. Simply follow the arrows and distances on your watch – just like your car’s GPS system.

Monitor Your Heart
Some versions also come with a soft strap, heart rate monitor. This will display your heart rate in beats per minute. The 410 also has five heart rate zones, which you can customize to your own fitness and likings based on your actual heart rate data.

This allows you to train in one heart zone and gradually improve such that you can advance upwards to the next zone and so on, as your progress improves.

If so desired, this sport watch will also track the amount of calories being burned.

Data Analysis
As stated above, getting the data uploaded, wirelessly, to the PC (or Mac) is quite simple. You will actually upload the data to the free Garmin Connect site, where the data can be analyzed, shared, summarized, plotted or used to create new goals or courses. You can also even see your route plotted out on a map.

Fast and Accurate
Forerunner 410 features HotFix® satellite prediction, which means it locks onto satellites quickly so you can be out the door and on with your run in no time. It also has a high-sensitivity GPS receiver to stay locked onto satellites, even near tall buildings or under tree cover.

What makes the Garmin Forerunner 410 Different than the Forerunner 405?

First and foremost the 410 has an enhanced touch bezel which allows runners to easily scroll through its features in any kind of weather – wet or dry. This is important because the Forerunner 405 has had many complaints about its bezel and in particular using it when it was rainy or you were really sweaty.

The 410 will also alert runners before going into its power down mode and will allow the runner to turn the watch off when there will be along break in the training.

The Foreunner 410 also has an optional, but premium, soft-strap heart rate monitor and updated software features which came about from the enhancements to the ever popular 405.
